HEY!!! this page was written by cherry, aka an introject of kyoko sakura! i wanted a space to ramble about my source lmao!!

first i should probably clarify: since im a real person and not a literal anime girl, im not EXACTLY like the canon version of kyoko. i see it as more like a 'past life' kind of situation (not in an actually spiritual way, but that's the only way i know how to describe the feeling.) like, yeah i remember her life as if it actually happened to me, but the past is in the past so its whatever- i dont have much of a personal/emotional attachment to what happened, yknow?

oh also, obviously this page contains spoilers for Madoka Magica!! so go away if you want to watch it first!!

alright, let's get into it!

so, first i guess i should set the scene, especially if you're reading this with no knowledge of what Madoka Magica is even about. kyoko is the only main character who shows up later on instead of being introduced in the first episode, so there's already a lot of bullshit that the other girls have been getting into. to keep this simple, i'll only talk about the parts that are relevant to kyoko's story.

the world of madoka magica has people called 'magical girls'- girls who started out as average humans, but were recruited to fight witches (aka big scary monsters that corrupt people's minds and make them kill themselves!!!) most people have no idea that witches or magic even exist, so magical girls have to be secretive about their jobs and basically live a double life. it honestly sucks to be a magical girl- you're forced to risk your life fighting all the time, and nobody even knows what you're doing.

so you may be asking, why did these dumbasses CHOOSE to become magical girls? it's a shitty decision that they have to live with for the rest of their life, so obviously they wanted something out of it. well, that's where this STUPID ALIEN CAT comes in!!!

so, this dude's name is kyubey, and he's the prick who turns people into magical girls. if they agree to become one, he can grant them any wish they want. but his target demographic is pretty much just like... 14-year-old girls, so they dont really have the best judgement when it comes to wishes.

let's jump to the part right before kyoko is introduced. there's this girl named sayaka, and she just became a magical girl. she's super hyped about it! she gets to fight the evil witches and make the world a better place, and kyubey granted her wish to heal her friend's paralyzed hand (she tooootally didn't have a crush on the friend and wanted a reason for him to be grateful to her......definitely not...)

the problem is, being a magical girl isn't actually about justice or saving people, although that's what they all believe at first. killing witches is what allows a magical girl's soul to be cleansed- if they don't fight witches, their soul becomes corrupted and it really fucks them up. THAT'S the real transaction here- you don't fight to save other people, you fight to save yourself. 'kill or be killed', as a little flower once said... but kyubey doesn't mention that much because he wants to appeal to people's sense of justice.

another thing to mention- there are smaller forms of witches, known as familiars. like witches, they're pretty harmful and capable of killing civilians, but killing them does NOT cleanse a magical girl's soul at all. if you want the benefits of it, you'll have to wait until the familiar grows up into a witch, and THEN take it down.

but sayaka, still motivated to save other people, fights them even though she gets nothing out of it. it's a noble cause for sure, but not exactly wise for her own wellbeing. this girl needs a reality check!

AND THAT'S WHERE I COME IN, BABYYYYYYYY!!!!!

(ok im gonna write in first-person for this part because i tried writing this in third-person and it felt WEIRD lmao)

so, here i am, the new girl in town! usually magical girls have their own territories and work alone so that they can get all the rewards from fighting witches. however, the magical girl who handled this city (mami) just got her head bitten off, so she's out of the picture. when i came to take over the place, i actually didn't know that sayaka was already there as the new magical girl. what really annoyed me though is that she was killing familiars without waiting for them to become witches- what a waste! naturally, i figured i'd teach her a lesson on how being a magical girl is supposed to work. and by that i mean we fight to the death!!!!! but our fight was interrupted by a scary lesbian, so we did NOT kill each other.

now, to be honest, i've been writing this whole thing from memory, and i don't actually remember what happens after our first meeting. i'll probably edit this if i rewatch it or bother to look at a summary, but a lot of it is just sayaka gradually getting more depressed and hopeless because she's realizing what it really means to be a magical girl. on top of that, her wish was kinda a waste because the dude ended up dating her other friend anyway. anyway, we end up becoming friends, and i open up about my TRAGIC BACKSTORYYYYYY!!!!
